The autumn sun shone brightly last Saturday morning for the first Dromard Well-a-thon 5km event, as close to 200 or so runners, walkers and families made their way to the starting line to tackle a very challenging route. From the committee's point of view it was great to see so many of our own community so keen to participate and enjoy the event and regardless of whether it took 20mins or anything up to 50mins the fact that on such a beautiful day so many availed of the opportunity to get active deems the initiative a success and something to build on. We say well done to everyone and keep up the good work. For assisting us on the day we thank Yvonne Leslie, First Aid, Barry McHugh, photographer, Breffni Challenge committee for the timing system and for the signage along the route, Peter Masterson on sound, Marion Maguire, Longford Athletic & Tri Clubs, Noel Maguire and all who assisted with stewarding and drinks along the route, Granard Gardaí and our sponsors - Corrigan's, Unilever, Medicare, Fosters Chemists, Keith's of Arva, Fresh Today and Pat The Baker. We had flashbacks to 2005 and earlier as we watched two of our former senior footballer's race to the finish line and it was Pauric Jones who was the recipient of our first local male home closely followed by John O'Toole. The 1st lady to the finishing line was our own Michelle McGee in a time of 18mins 58 secs with Sarah Reynolds then taking the first local lady prize. Please see our Facebook page to view some of our local hero's in action along the way! We play the Leader Cup quarter final against Abbeylara in Abbeylara on Sunday next at 2pm. Best luck to all here. We would like to remind our supporters that there is only four weeks to go until upcoming raffle, the main prize for which is two return flight tickets to Australia. Tickets for the draw, costing €5 each or a book of 6 tickets for €20 are available in local shops, from club members and also on line (see our club webpage Well done to Killoe on their great win in the Leinster club championship on Sunday last. Sincere condolences to the Harte family Cornakelly on their recent bereavement. Lotto results for Monday 5th November 2012. The numbers drawn were 6, 15, 16 and 24. There was no jackpot winner. The winners of the draw were Bridgie Murtagh, Margaret Masterson, Nellie Gormley and Cáit & Ciaran Murphy. The seller's prize was won by Damien Sheridan.
