On Saturday last our reserve league 1 panel played their 4th game in this competition.  The opposition on this occasion was Longford Slashers and the venue was Michael Fay Park.  It was the home team who made the early running scoring the opening 2 points.  Enda Macken opened the Dromard account with a point from play.  Our opponents were picking of good scores despite best efforts of our defence.  A brace of Ross Mc Nerney points from play left the half time score Dromard 0-3 Longford Slashers 1-7.  The second half saw our players come out in determined fashion to set about reducing the deficite.  After sterling work which saw us pick off the points to get within 3 points of our opponents.  We drew level when Kieran Mc Stay found the net after he made a drive from defence.  Both sides pressed hard for the winner but it was the home side who landed the decisive score to leave the full time score Dromard 1-11 Longford Slashers 2-9.  Team and scorers.  Gavin Mc Nerney, Enda Kiernan, James Mimnagh, James Conefrey, Kieran Mc Stay (1-0), Peter Reynolds, John Sheridan, Noel Reynolds, Enda Mc Entire, Enda Macken (0-1), Emmet Masterson (0-1), Donal Sheridan, Ross Mc Nerney (0-2), Dermot Reilly, Gary Maguire (0-6) 5 frees.  Subs used.  Micheal Reilly (0-1), Keith Masterson and Martin Mc Gee.  On Saturday next our senior league campaign will commence when we host Killoe on Saturday next at 5.30pm.  Our division 3 league will also start this Saturday with a home game with Fr. Manning Gaels at 7pm.  Hard luck to Longford u21s who gave it their all in their quest to land Longford its first Leinster title.  While it wasn't to be on the evening the players gave a hugely committed performance that the supporters could only be very proud of.  A big congratulations to the players and management who definitely gave the Longford supporters value for money through their season.  Hard luck to Longford seniors who finished their National league program with a defeat away to Louth.  We acknowledge again the efforts of our own Damien and Francis on the great commitment they give their county.  We wish Francis a speedy recovery from the injury he picked up in Drogheda.  Hope to see him back on the playing field in the near future.   Longford GAA are holding a 5KM Road Race on Sunday May 5th 2013 in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. This event is the first part of a 3 part series of promoting The Gathering 2013 in Longford & also as a fundraiser for the Longford Players Fund who have managed to be promoted to Division 2 from Division 4 in the past 2 years. We would really appreciate your kind support for this event. Lotto results for Monday 1st April 2013. The numbers drawn were 2, 16, 17 and 26. There was no jackpot winner. Visitors to our club grounds over the past couple of weeks will have noticed that our new 3G pitch has now been completed and is looking very well. This is a fine enhancement to our club grounds and an excellent facility for players in our club in all weathers. The facility is also available for booking by individuals and groups in the neighbouring parishes in our community. For further details please contact chairman, Joseph Murphy at 0871340132. The next club meeting takes place in the clubhouse on Monday night next, 15th April 2013 at 9pm following the weekly lotto draw. We extend our sympathy to the McHugh family, Berrinagh on the recent passing of Kathleen’s brother Tommy Reilly who died in Leixlip, Co. Kildare recently.
