Ladies Club Notes

Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 20th December 2013

Our amalgamation with Colmcille played the Minor A Championship Final against Slashers on Sunday evening of last week under lights in Slashers. Unfortunately despite the best efforts of our girls we came out second best on a score line of 2-8 to 0-7. We got off to a good start with two early scores from Aedín Mimnagh and Shannon Bransfield and it was looking promising. Slashers added a point of their own which was quickly followed by a goal putting out girls under pressure. We drifted out of it in the last 10 minutes of the first half to allow Slashers put up a 2-2 to 0-4 lead at halftime. After a couple of positional changes at halftime we made a strong start to the second half with two early scores from Michelle Farrell and Aedín Mimnagh. Then it was Slashers turn to enjoy a spell during which they scored 4 unanswered points and they could have added a goal to their tally if it weren’t for Laura Bleakley advancing from her goal line to clear the danger. Michelle Farrell added another point to our tally but alas it wasn’t to be our day. Team and scorers; Laura Bleakley, Rebecca Duffy, Maeve O’Reilly, Caitríona Farrelly, Nadine McKeon, Grainne Reilly, Emma Bleakley, Michelle Farrell (0-02), Aedín Mimnagh (0-02), Cáit Murphy, Rachel O’Reilly, Shauna O’Reilly, Laura Healy, Shannon Bransfield (0-03), Ruth Jones. Subs: Finoola Hughes, Frances Cooke and Jane McNerney. Missing: Ellen Murphy. We would like to thank the girls who have trained so hard over the past 3 months. Indeed it is a remarkable achievement for a group of girls to reach the A Final after such a short period of time playing together. Thank you to Laura Martin and Caroline Doyle for the time put into training the team too. Thank you to Coy’s Bar who had food ready for us after the game and congratulations to Slashers on their win. We had our AGM on Friday night of last week and had a good crowd in attendance. We still have to fill the two main positions on the committee, chairperson and secretary and will be looking to do so in the near future.

We also had our Bake Sale on last Sunday week and had a great turnout and some fabulous baked goods donated. We thank everyone for their time and effort baking and also those that purchased goods to support the club. Your continued support is always appreciated.

We wish to say a huge Good Luck to player and secretary Bernice Martin who marries Eric Treacy on Friday. We wish them a very happy day and all the best for their future. We also say Congratulations to player Linda Martin and Tom Bermingham on their recent engagement and we wish them a very happy future together.

Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 15th November 2013On Tuesday last our girls schools team played Ardagh in Pairc na Gael in a playoff decider to determine who advanced to the Division 2 final.  While Dromard played well in first half it was Ardagh who led at the half time interval by 4-04 to 2-02 with the Dromard goals from Gemma Reilly and Clódagh Duffy and two points from Alanna Mulligan. The moving of Alanna Mulligan into full forward for the second half was a decisive switch as she made a huge impact scoring four goals in second half. Sarah Murphy scored the last goal with Clódagh Duffy scoring three points. The final score was Dromard 7-07 Ardagh 5-05.  Team and scorers; Avril Cosgrove, Kathy Farrell, Nicole Conboy, Órlaith Mulligan, Abi Duffy, Clódagh Duffy (0-04), Sarah Murphy (1-00), Gemma Reilly (1-00), Cíara Maguire, Alanna Mulligan (5-03), Kate Masterson, Cathy Conefrey and Aisling Farrell.  This set up a final against Newtownforbes with Pearse Park the venue on Saturday last.  The fact that Newtown recorded a convincing win over Dromard in the earlier stages of the league suggested that this would be a very difficult assignment for Dromard. However undaunted by the underdog tag it was Dromard who got the good start with Sarah Murphy finding the Newtown net early on.  This was followed quickly by two Allana Mulligan points to stretch Dromard's lead. Newtown responded in convincing manner scoring a goal and a point.  It was Allana Mulligan who finished the first half scoring with a point to leave the score line at the interval Dromard 1-03 Newtownforbes 1-01.  Our opponents came out in determined fashion scoring two early second half goals. Dromard were coming under intense pressure at this stage and were struggling to stay in the contest.  Frees from Allana Mulligan kept Dromard in touch.  A fourth Newtown goal looked like it swung the game back in their favour but Sarah Murphy popped up with a goal in reply to leave only a single point between the sides.  With the full time whistle fast approaching it was Allana Mulligan scored a cracking goal, fitting to win any final to claim victory for Dromard in dramatic style. The final score was Dromard 3-08 Newtownforbes 4-03.  Team captain Kathy Farrell accepted the cup on behalf of her elated team mates.  Allana Mulligan was presented with the player of the game award.  Team and scorers;  Bridget Donohoe, Kathy Farrell, Órlaith Mulligan, Abi Duffy, Deiribhile Currid, Clódagh Duffy (1-01), Sarah Murphy (1-02), Gemma Reilly, Kate Masterson, Allana Mulligan (1-05), Eleanor Rabbit, Nichole Conboy, Cíara Maguire, Cathy Conefrey, Avril Cosgrove and Aishling Farrell.  Great credit and a big thank you goes to their teachers Padraig Denningan, Aoibhin O’Neill, and Harry Rock for their dedication to this group.  No minor fixture this weekend but training will take place as usual.

Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 8th November 2013

Hard luck to the Dromard/Colmcille minors who were defeated away to Ballymore on Sunday week last. In the first half both sides were evenly matched, with fantastic scores coming from Shannon Bransfield, Shauna O Reilly, Aedín Mimnagh and Laura Healy leaving the score at 2-04 to 3-03 to Ballymore at half time. However Ballymore proved too strong for this young Dromard/Colmcille team in the second half. The game finished on the final score Dromard/Colmcille 2-06 to 5-08 for Ballymore. Despite missing a few key players the girls put in a great performance working hard throughout. Team – Ruth Jones (C), Cathriona Farrelly (C), Meabh O Reilly (C), Rebecca Duffy (D), Frances Cooke (D), Grainne Reilly (C), Nadine Mc Keon (C), Aedin Mimnagh (D), Emma Bleakley (D), Laura Healy (C), Shannon Bransfield (C), Shauna O Reilly (D), Laura Bleakley (D) , Rachel O Reilly (D), Fionnula Hughes (C), Cait Murphy (D). We wish Tara O’Heir a speedy recovery from her ankle injury and hope to see her off the crutches soon. Our junior team have wrapped up their season and we look forward to the break after what has been a year dominated by bad injuries. Thank you to all the girls that put in an effort with training and games all year and we wish those recovering from injury a full and speedy return and we look forward to seeing everyone back on the pitch in 2014. A special thanks to trainer Nicky O’Hara, who came on board with us in the summer, for all his time and dedication to the team. Congratulations to St. Helen’s who captured a Leinster junior club title in dramatic fashion after a one point win over Monasterevin after extra time in Kinnegad on Sunday last.  This is a fantastic achievement and is a testament to the club and a great boost for Ladies football in the county.  We wish them well as they now head into the All Ireland series.  Our schools girls team play Ardagh in a playoff fixture in Pairc na Gael this Tuesday. We have no minor game this weekend as Colmcille are playing in the Division 2 final on Sunday and we wish them the best of luck in the final. Minor training this Tuesday at 7pm in Colmcille. There is a club meeting on Thursday evening at 8pm in the clubhouse. Please keep an eye on club notes and the parish newsletter for the date of our upcoming Cake Sale. Condolences to the Conefrey family Cammagh, the Dolan family Kiltycon and the Gray family, Ballyduffy on their recent bereavements.

On Monday last our schools girls team played Newtownforbes in their league in Pairc na Gael.  Dromard got off to a great start when Allana Mulligan broke forward with intent and finished the ball to the net.  While the Dromard girls went on to have a couple of near misses it was the visitors who began to exert control on the game.  Despite very good goalkeeping from the Dromard netminder Abi Duffy Newtownforbes found the net on a couple of occasions.  Allanna Mulligan pointed a free after Clódagh Duffy was fouled.  The score at half time was Dromard 1-1 Newtownforbes 4-3.  The home team started brightly but the opposing goalie was on top form stopping numerous Dromard efforts.  The girls tried very hard right up to the final whistle but it was the visitors who emerged victorious on the score line Dromard 1-3 Newtownforbes 5-7.  Dromard team and scorers.  Abi Duffy (0-1) 1 free, Eleanor Rabbit, Órlaith Mulligan, Sarah Murphy, Ciara Maguire, Allana Mulligan (1-2) 1 free, Derbhla Busteed, Clódagh Duffy, Avril Cosgrove, Gemma Reilly, Kathy Farrell.  Subs used. Our u12 team were out in the A Final on Wednesday last against Slashers. It proved to be a tight and entertaining game and unfortunately the score ended Slashers 1-4 to Dromard 0-2. The first half saw end to end action with some lovely team play from both sides and we went into the break on a score line of 1-2 to 0-2 in favour of Slashers. The second half saw us with a lot of possession but the Slashers defence was hard to break through. All four of the Dromard backs along with keeper Abi Duffy were outstanding and rock solid in the second half to keep Slashers to 2 points and Abi made two fantastic saves to keep us in the game. Full back Karen McLoughlin in particular read the game so well and cleaned up in the backs. Both midfielders worked tirelessly tracking back and surging forward to support the attack and both girls got on the score sheet with a point apiece. Our forwards all made some great runs and offered support to each other and the attacking midfielders with Gemma Reilly offering great support around the middle of the field.  Unfortunately despite a fantastic team performance and some outstanding individual displays we were to come out second best but it is a fantastic achievement to have reached the County A final and these girls were already winners before the ball was thrown in. The trainer Laura Martin wishes to thank all the players for their dedication to training and playing and a special thank you to the parents for bringing girls to training and games and for supporting this great bunch of young girls. The team were: Abi Duffy, Karen McLoughlin, Aoífe Brady, Clódagh Duffy, Sarah Murphy, Alanna Mulligan (0-1), Shauna Hagan (0-1), Gemma Reilly, Kathy Farrell, Kate Masterson, Cíara Maguire, Cathy Conefrey, Leah Duffy, Aisling Farrell, Orfhlaith Mulligan and Avril Cosgrove. On Sunday evening last our senior girls played Ballymore in the Gold Cup. Glorious sunshine shone throughout making for testing conditions for players.  It was Ballymore who got into their stride early opening up an early lead.  While Dromard did have a good share of possession they found scores hard to come by.  By half time the score was Dromard 0-1 Ballymore 0-8.  The second half the home side added to their tally and again were unlucky not to add further scores.  The game ended on the score line of Dromard 1-5 Ballymore 1-11.  Team and scorers;  Rebecca Maguire, Bernice Martin, Emma Bleakley, Laura Martin, Aedin Mimnagh (0-1), Helen Conefrey, Doireann Mimnagh (0-1), Donna Masterson, Sarah Reynolds (1-0), Imelda Reynolds (0-2), Michelle Masterson. (0-1)  Subs used; Michelle Mc Manus and Ellen Murphy. Longford Ladies Development officer Emer Kiernan is holding a one day camp for all girls aged 6-14 years this Saturday 13th July from 10am – 3pm in Mullinalaghta pitch. It will consist of skills, games and more. It promises to be a fun filled day and we would encourage all our underage girls to attend. The ladies club are running a clothes collection as a fundraiser the week of July 22nd. We appeal to the local community to support and to please fill a refuse bag with unwanted clothes and shoes. A drop off point will be confirmed before the date. Well done to Longford Ladies on their great win over Wicklow at the weekend.  Well done to Mairead Reynolds who started on the day and Aedin Mimnagh and Michelle Kilkenny who were our other representatives on the panel.

Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 5th July 2013

Pride of place goes to the u12’s who won their semi final in the A championship on Wednesday last against Ballymahon/Forgney in Ballymahon. This was always going to be a tight game following the draw game between the two teams earlier in the campaign. We got off to a slow start but it was Dromard who opened the scoring with a great point from Cíara Maguire. A Clódagh Duffy point later in the half saw us go into the break with a slight 0-2 to 0-1 lead. The second half saw the game open up a bit more and a great team performance saw us push out our lead with an early goal from Alanna Mulligan. But the opposition weren’t going to give in and registered a goal and point in quick succession to keep the game tight. A further 2 points from Clódagh Duffy and one apiece from Alanna Mulligan and Sarah Murphy saw us increase our lead. A fantastic save from keeper Abi Duffy and some trojan work from the backs saw us hold onto our lead to claim a 1-6 to 1-2 win and a place in the A Final on Wednesday next. It was a fantastic team performance and this is a great achievement for our young u12 team and we hope that support will be out in force at the final next Wednesday evening. Team and scorers: Abi Duffy, Karen McLoughlin, Aoífe Brady, Clódagh Duffy (0-3), Sarah Murphy (0-1), Kate Masterson, Alanna Mulligan (1-1), Shauna Hagan, Gemma Reilly, Eleanor Rabitte, Kathy Farrell, Leah Duffy and Cíara Maguire (0-1). Subs: Orfhlaith Mulligan, Cathy Conefrey and Aisling Farrell. On Sunday last our senior ladies played their opening round of the junior championship when they took on Ballymahon/Forgney in Leo Casey Park Ballymahon.  Drizzle and a firm breeze didn't take away from what turned out to be an entertaining game.  Points from Helen Conefrey (free) and Laura Martin opened the scoring but the home side cancelled out this lead with points from play.  In what proved to be a decisive stage of the game Dromard scored an unanswered 1-4 with the goal coming from Ellen Murphy.  Ballymahon/Forgney did pull back 2 points to leave the half time score Dromard 1-6 Ballymahon/Forgney 0-4.  An early second half penalty converted by Helen Conefrey followed by an Ellen Murphy point from play stretched our lead.  Our opponents rallied well to close the gap but Dromard held on to finish ahead on the score line Dromard 4-9 Ballymahon/Forgney 2-6.  Team and scorers;  Michelle Kilkenny, Bernice Martin, Emma Bleakley, Aedin Mimnagh (1-0), Mairead Reynolds, Laura Martin (0-3), Michelle Mc Manus (0-1), Helen Conefrey (1-1) 1-0 pen, 1 free, Rebecca Maguire (0-1), Doireann Mimnagh, Tara O Hare, Ellen Murphy (1-3), Michelle Masterson.  Subs used; Sarah Reynolds(1-0), Donna Masterson, Chloe Connell and Laura Bleakley. Fixtures for the week: The u12 girls play Longford Slashers in the A Final this Wednesday at 7:15pm in Killoe. The Junior team play another round of the gold cup against Ballymore on Sunday next at 6pm in Dromard. Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 30th November 2012

On Saturday last it was destination Pearse Park for our schoolgirls team who took on Granard in their league final.  The sub zero temperatures didn't affect either team who started the game at a brisk pace. Dromard got off to a great start when Cíara Reilly found the Granard net with a great strike. This was quickly followed by a Clodagh Duffy point from play.  Granard showed they meant business by scoring a goal and a point to level matters.  Not deterred by this, Dromard came storming back and were able to land a further 3-03 which left them ahead 4-04 to 1-02 as the half time whistle sounded. The second half was a nip and tuck affair with our opponents making a spirited comeback.  However we landed two goals compliments of Jamie Lee Reilly and Allana Mulligan that ensured the lead was held onto until the final whistle.  The final score was Dromard 6-08 Granard 4-03.  Team and scorers;  Bridget Donohoe, Sarah Murphy, Allanah Reilly, Aoífe Brady, Clodagh Duffy (0-2), Alanna Mulligan (1-04) 2 frees, Cíara Reilly (3-00), Jamie Lee Reilly (2-02) 1-0 free, Aoífe Grimes.  Subs used on the day were Kate Masterson, Abi Duffy, Gemma Reilly, Eleanor Rabbitt, Faye Reilly and Deirbhile Currid.  Team captain Aoífe Grimes accepted the cup on behalf of her team mates and gave a very good acceptance speech.  Alanna Mulligan received the player of game award for her fine performance.  Alanna’s work wasn't done for the day as later that night she represented her club at Junior SCÓR in solo singing.  All the players gave excellent performances on the day and in all their earlier games of the competition.  The panel were greeted later at the clubhouse where they received their medals from All Ireland winner Mark McHugh, Donegal.  Thanks to the minor club for including this as part of their medal presentations.  A big thanks goes to their teachers and team trainers Padraig Dennigan, Aoibhin O Neill and Harry Rock for the dedication given to the team's preparations.  The ladies club AGM will now take place on Sunday December 16th from 12.30 to 1.30pm.  The under 12 girls league winning team will be presented with their medals on the day.

On Wednesday last our schools girl’s team played their opening round of their league when they had Granard as visitors to Pairc na Gael.  The Dromard girls started well and opened up a lead.  With Aoífe Brady playing soundly in goals, defenders Cloda Duffy, Allanah Reilly and Sarah Murphy giving very little away in defence, Allanna Mulligan and Jamie Lee Reilly giving Dromard the edge at midfield and forwards Abi Duffy, Aoífe Grimes and Cíara Reilly looking very sharp in attack it was Dromard who led at half time.  The Granard side battled back well in the second half reducing the deficit.  Dromard held onto their lead up to the full time whistle and finished ahead on the score line Dromard 8-09 Granard 4-01.  Team and scorers;  Aoífe Brady, Cloda Duffy (0-4), Allanah Reilly, Sarah Murphy, Allanna Mulligan (4-03), Jamie Lee Reilly (3-02), Abi Duffy, Aoífe Grimes, Cíara Reilly.  Subs used; Bridgit Donohoe (1-0), DearbhlaCurrid, Rabbit, Katy Farrell, Gemma Reilly.  On Thursday the Dromard/Colmcille under 16 amalgamation played Carrickedmond in the Summer league final in Michael Fay Park.  With Carrickedmond having come out on top in the league stages of the competition it was always going to be a difficult assignment for the amalgamation.  Carrickedmond had the better of the first half exchanges and had a 2-04 to 1-01 lead built up at half time.  While Dromard/Colmcille did give it their best efforts in the second half picking off good scores to narrow the margin, victory was not to be on this occasion as Carrickedmond held out for the win on the full time score line of Dromard/Colmcille 1-05 Carrickedmond 4-05.  Team and scorers;  Elaine Healy (D), Rebecca Duffy (D), Meave O Reilly (C), Jane McNerney (C), Shauna O Reilly (D) (0-01), Ruth Jones (C), Rachel O Reilly (D) (0-02), Nadine McKeon (C), Fionnuala Hughes (C), Shannon Bransfield (C) (1-2), Laura Bleakley (D).  Subs used.  Anita Gunshinin (C), Laura Healy (C) and Laura Doherty (D).  As this marked the end of the season we extend a big thanks to the team's dedicated mentors who have put in great effort with this group all season, namely Thomas O'Reilly, Padraig Duffy and Barbara Jones. On Sunday our senior ladies played the semi final of their league when they travelled to Rathcline on Sunday last where they took on the home side.  Having came out second best on their previous outings against the same opposition it was always going to be a difficult task to come on top against this very experienced team.  Our younger team gave it their best for the duration of the game but we trailed at full time on the score Dromard 1-01 Rathcline 0-11.  Team and scorers.  Michelle Kilkenny, Níamh Cooke, Bernice Martin, Aideen Mimnagh, Mairead Reynolds, Emma Bleakley, Michelle McManus, Sarah Reynolds, Rebecca Maguire, Helen Conefrey, Doireann Mimnagh, Donna Masterson, Imelda Reynolds, Ellen Murphy (0-01).  Subs on the day were Michelle Masterson, Laura Bleakley (1-00), Laura Martin, Chloe Connell.  This brings the curtain down on the season.  A big thanks to all players who gave a great commitment to team preparations and games over the past season.  Despite not picking up any silverware the season was very successful in terms  of the development of our young team.  Thanks to team trainer Philip Brady who has done sterling work with this panel all season.  Thanks to First Aider Margaret Martin who is ever present for games and to anyone else who assisted in any way with the running of the team.  Thanks to our loyal band of supporters who turn out time after time to cheer the girls on.

Wednesday last saw our under 12’s play their league final against Ballymore in Keenan Park Ardagh.  This game was certainly fitting for a final with both sides serving up a great contest.  From the start the game was played at a high tempo with a high level of skill on evidence.  Dromard hit the front early opening a 3 point to 1 lead but Ballymore struck back with a goal.  Having had a couple of close shaves, an Andrea Farrell effort eventually found the net.  This was followed almost immediately by an Allana Mulligan point from play.  On the stroke of half time our opponents levelled the game by virtue of a goal.  The half time score was Dromard 1-04 Ballymore 2-01.  Dromard started the second half in determined fashion, winning a good share of possession that yielded 3-03 to open up a decisive lead.  Ballymore did finish the game strongly, goaling twice leaving the closing stages very tense for the good sized Dromard support.  The final whistle was greeted with relief as our team held on to finish ahead on the score line Dromard 5-07 Ballymore 4-02.  Great credit to all players involved on the evening.  They showed great teamwork all through, with no small amount of spirit on display on the evening and throughout the campaign.  Team and scorers;  Kate Masterson, Amy McLoughlin, Karen McLoughlin, Cloda Duffy, Abi Duffy, Allana Mulligan (1-01), Jamie Lee Reilly (1-01), Andrea Farrell (2-02) 1-01 frees, Sarah Murphy, Aine Smith (1-02), Shauna Hagan (0-01).  Subs used;  Allana Reilly, Aoífe Grimes, Cíara Reilly, Eleanor Rabbit, Kathy Farrell, Gemma Reilly, Faye Reilly.  An absentee on the evening was Aoífe Brady who played a key role in the earlier rounds.  Team captain Amy McLoughlin received the cup on behalf of her teammates.  Great credit goes to team trainer Helen Conefrey who has given this group great commitment.  Helen was ably assisted by Padraig Duffy and Peter Masterson.  Thanks to our supporters who came out in great numbers.  Thanks the Jacinta and Seamus Brady who sponsored drinks and snacks for the panel for the semi final and finals games. On Monday last our under 14’s had Longford Slashers as visitors to Pairc na Gael.  This game was closely contested with little separating the sides on the scoreboard at any stage.  At half time the sides were level on the score line Dromard 2-00 Longford Slashers 1-03.  We added a further goal on the resumption but it was our opponents that finished ahead at the final whistle on the score line Dromard 3-01 Longford Slashers 2-09.  Team and scorers;  Amy McLoughlin, Laura Doherty, Elaine Healy, Róisín Smith, Rachel Reilly (1-00), Cáit Murphy, Claire Gorman, Eleanor Gray (1-01), Maria Murphy, Andrea Farrell (1-00), Aoífe Grimes, Alannah Reilly.  Great to see Cáit Murphy returning to action after her injury. The under 12 girls were away to Ballymore in the final round of the league on  Wednesday evening last and came away with their second win on the trot. By half time Dromard had built up a lead of 4-04 to 0-03 but had to defend a comeback by the home side early in the second half. However the determined visitors responded with some well taken scores to pull away finishing the match on a score line of 9-07 to 1-06. Team and scorers;  Kate Masterson, Amy McLoughlin, Karen McLoughlin, Clódagh Duffy (0-01), Aoífe Brady, Alanna Mulligan (1-02), Jamie Lee Reilly (2-01), Cíara Reilly, Andrea Farrell (6-03), Gemma Reilly, Aoífe Grimes. Subs used: Faye Reilly, Eleanor Rabbit.  This win qualifies the girls for the semi final of the competition that takes place next Wednesday. On Sunday last our seniors played another round of Gold Cup with Rathcline providing the opposition.  Drizzly rain lasted the duration of game which made scoring difficult.  A Doireann Mimnagh goal opened the scoring followed quickly by a Laura Bleakley point from play.  Rathcline came back into it strongly scoring 1-02 before half time to leave the score at the break Dromard 1-01 Rathcline 1-02.  Points were exchanged on the turnover.  A Sarah Reynolds goal edged Dromard ahead.  The visitors responded with a point but an Imelda Reynolds goal swayed the contest in Dromard's favour.  Both sides added further points but sterling defensive work ensuring the home side held out for a hard earned win.  Full time score was Dromard 3-04 Rathcline 1-07  Team and scorers; Michelle Masterson, Bernice Martin, Edel Gormley, Emma Bleakley, Laura Martin (0-01), Sarah Reynolds (1-00), Michelle McManus, Helen Conefrey, Rebecca Maguire (0-01), Doireann Mimnagh (1-00), Laura Bleakley (0-01).  Subs used;  Ellen Murphy, Caitríona Spollen, Imelda Reynolds (1-01) and Chloe Connell. A summer league will commence in the coming weeks for under 12, under 14 & under 16 teams.  More details to follow. Our sympathies go to the Kiernan family Ballyduffy on their recent bereavement.

On Sunday last our seniors had a Gold Cup game away to Killoe.  We struggled to get into our rhythm early on against a lively opposition.  At half time we trailed 1-9 to 1-0.  While everyone gave of their best and despite finding the net twice in the second half we were in arrears at the finish 5-14 to 3-1.  Team and scorers.  Michelle Masterson, Niamh Cooke, Bernice Martin, Emma Blakely, Laura Blakely, Laura Martin, Edel Gormley, Donna Masterson (1-0), Rebecca Maguire, Imelda Reynolds, Doirean Mimnagh.  Subs used.  Cloie Connell (1-0), Ellen Murphy (1-1), Aedin Mimnagh. Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 15th June 2012.

On Monday evening last our under 14’s travelled to Mullinalaghta to take on the home side.  The home side got off to a good start registering a number of scores to go ahead.  Despite our girls’ best efforts this was a lead our opponents held onto until the end.  Team and scorers;  Elaine Healy, Amy McLoughlin, Laura Doherty, Francis Cooke, Eleanor Gray (0-03), Róisín Kiernan (1-02), Andrea Farrell (0-03), Aine Smith (1-02).  Next game is away to Killoe this Monday. A good win for the under 12 girls on Wednesday evening in Pairc na nGael against Mostrim got their winning ways in the league back on track. Dromard got off to a good start and had a commanding lead built up at half time 4-09 to no score. Mostrim responded early in the second half with some well taken points but Dromard kept the pressure on and built on a good first half performance to emerge victorious. The team and scorers was; Kate Masterson, Amy McLoughlin, Karen McLoughlin, Clódagh Duffy, Abi Duffy, Alanna Mulligan (0-03), Andrea Farrell (4-05), Jamie Lee Reilly (1-02), Shauna Hagan (0-01), Aoífe Grimes (3-00), Aine Smith (0-01), Sarah Murphy (0-01), Aoífe Brady, Gemma Reilly, Alannah Reilly (0-01), Cíara Reilly, Faye Reilly. Next game is away to Longford Slashers (B) next Wednesday 13th of June. We played Clonguish in the Gold Cup on Friday evening last.  Heavy rain during the day made for difficult playing conditions. It was a tightly contested game with end to end action. After opening the scoring in the 4th minute we kept the pressure on with some well taken scores in particular by Imelda Reynolds to go into half time 1-06 to 2-01 ahead. Upon the restart Clonguish came out more determined & as a result of some well taken points they secured a 3-08 to 2-07 win. Hard luck to all the players who turned out despite the poor conditions. We play Ballymore on Sunday next in the Gold Cup in Dromard at 12.30pm. Training continues Tuesday & Friday nights. Best of luck to all those doing exams and we look forward to having you all back on the pitch soon.

Ladies Club notes for Friday 8th June 2012

On Monday our u14s took on Colmcille in Dromard.  Glorious sunshine made for ideal conditions for the game.  The was an entertaining game throughout with little separating the sides at any time.  Dromard held a 2-3 to 1-2 lead at halftime.  The second half saw the visitors comback to draw level.  The full time score was Dromard 3-5 Colmcille 3-5.  This was a fair result to this very entertaining game.  Team and scorers.  Laura Doherty, Frances Cooke, Elaine Healy, Aine Smith (1-0), Amy Mc Mc Loughlin,Aoife Grimes, Rachel Reilly (0-2), Maria Murphy, Roisin Mc Gahern, Elanor Gray (2-3). Subs used Claire Gorman. We were out against Colmcille in the Gold Cup on Friday evening last at Pairc na nGael. It was an entertaining game with some fine play from both sides but due to some wayward shooting and poor defending on Colmcille set pieces we went into half time down by 5 points. The second half started off promising with an early goal from Becky Maguire and some great defending from the backs. A late rally of goals from Michelle Masterson and Sarah Reynolds and continued pressure from the backs ensured a comeback to result in a 4point win.  Final score, Dromard 8-2 Colmcille 3-13.  Team and scorers.  Lorna Reynolds, Niamh Cooke, Laura Martin, Emma Blakely, Aedin Mimnagh, Sarah Reynolds (1-0), Helen Conefrey (1-1), Doirean Mimnagh, Rebecca Maguire (2-1), Tara O Hare (1-0), Imealda Reynolds.  Subs on the evening, Donna Masterson, Michelle Masterson (3-0), Cloie Connell, Edel Gormley, Caitriona Spollen. Well done to all involved and we hope everyone enjoys their Bank Holiday weekend off training.  Hard luck to Longford u14s who lost out to Kilkenny in the Leinster final.  Well done to our own Rachel O Reilly who was on this team.  Best of luck to Ellen Murphy, Gemma O Reilly, Laura Blakely and Rebecca Duffy and all who are sitting State exams in the forthcoming weeks. Sincere sympathy to player Michelle Kilkenny and the Ellis family Arva on the recent death of Noel Ellis.

Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 1st June 2012

On Tuesday last our school girls played their final in Pearse Park.  Newtowncashel provided the opposition and this turned out to be a thriller with both sides contributing to this enthralling encounter.  This game had everything, two very balanced sides that were totally committed, high drama throughout with little separating the sides at any stage and plenty of scores. The first half was played at a great pace ending level on the score line of Dromard 2-08 Cashel 3-06.  The second half was nip and tuck with plenty of scores and again nothing separated the team at the full time whistle with the sides deadlocked at 5-14 apiece.  Extra time followed and we were pipped at the post at the end on the score line Dromard 5-18 Cashel 6.17.  While the girls were disappointed to lose out, they can be very proud of their performance.  Team and scorers were as follows; Aoífe Brady, Allana Reilly, Claire Gorman, Cáit Murphy (3-09), Eleanor Gray (1-08), Jamie Lee Reilly, Aoífe Grimes.  Subs;  Allana Mulligan (0-01), Clódagh Duffy, Sarah Murphy (1-00), Kate Masterson, Dearbhla Busteed, Brigit Donohoe and Gemma Reilly.  We wish Cáit Murphy a speedy recovery from the injury she picked up during the game.  Thanks to the parents association for the refreshments provided at the clubhouse later that evening. Congratulations to Colmcille on their win of the schools Div. 2 title.  Well done to the Dromard girls involved here, Áine Smith, Róisín Kiernan, Amy McLoughlin, Andrea Farrell and Karen McLoughlin. On Wednesday the under 12 panel played Grattan’s in Dunbeggan.  While our team played well the home side had the better of the scoring in the opening half.  By half time the score was Grattan’s 2-03 Dromard 0-01.  The second half saw the girls continue their good play but it was our opponents that held on for a 3-05 to 2-01 win.  Team and scorers;  Allana Reilly, Amy McLoughlin, Karen McLoughlin, Clódagh Duffy, Allana Mulligan, Sarah Murphy, Andrea Farrell (1-00), Jamie Lee Reilly, Shauna Hagan, Áine Smith (1-01), Aoífe Brady.  Subs used; Cíara Reilly, Abi Duffy and Gemma Reilly. On Sunday the seniors played St. Helen’s in Pairc na Gael. Glorious sunshine made for demanding playing conditions.  Playing with the aid of the breeze it was an Imelda Reynolds point from play that opened the scoring.  With fifteen minutes gone in the first half Dromard had opened up a 2-04 to 0-01 lead.  While St. Helen’s did find the Dromard net on two occasion before half time, Dromard still held a 3-08 to 2-03 advantage at half time.  Our Drumlish/Ballinamuck neighbours rallied after half time eventually reducing our lead to 2 points with the game entering the final minutes.  However the home side responded well by scoring 3 goals to leave the full time score Dromard 8-09 St. Helen’ 5-07.  Well done to players and management on this very good performance against their lively opponents.  Team and scorers;  Michelle Kilkenny, Laura Martin, Bernice Martin, Emma Blakely, Mairéad Reynolds, Aideen Mimnagh (1-00), Sarah Reynolds (1-00), Michelle McManus (2-00), Doireann Mimnagh (0-01), Helen Conefrey, Michelle Masterson, Imelda Reynolds (2-04), Rebecca Maguire (2-03).  Subs on the day; Tara O’Hara (0-1), Chloe Connell and Caitríona Spollen. The ladies club would like to thank the American festival committee for their generous donation to the club. Sincere sympathies to the Mimnagh family Moyne and the Berry family Enaghan on their recent bereavements.

Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 25th May 2012

On Monday evening last our u14 team played Ballymahon/Forgney in Pairc na Gael.  We fell behind at the start and by half time the visitors had built up a 4-04 to 0-01.  Our players registered some scores but at full time we were in arrears on the score line Dromard 1-04 Ballymahon/Forgney 6-07.  Team on the day; Amy McLoughlin, Laura Doherty, Elaine Healy, Frances Cooke, Allanah Reilly, Róisín Kiernan, Cáit Murphy, Rachel Reilly (1-01), Andrea Farrell, Eleanor Gray (0-02), Aine Smith, Maria Murphy, Aoífe Grimes (0-01).  Subs used Claire Gorman. Our under 12’s girls recorded their second win on the trot at home to Clonguish on Wednesday evening. Dromard started well and netted two goals early on followed by two points before half time leaving the score at the break 2-03 to 1-00. Clonguish came back in the second half and only for great defending by the Dromard backs resulted in a win for the girls on a score line of 3-03 to 2-03. The team and scorers were: Kate Masterson, Amy McLoughlin, Karen McLoughlin, Clódagh Duffy, Aoífe Brady (1-00), Andrea Farrell, Shauna Hagan, Alannah Reilly, Jamie Lee Reilly (1-01), Cíara Reilly, Aine Smith (1-01), Sarah Murphy (0-01), Abi Duffy, Aoífe Grimes, Gemma Reilly, Kathy Farrell, Faye Reilly. Next game is away to Grattans/Rathcline on Wednesday next 23rd May. Our under 16 amalgamation with Colmcille played Ballymore on Thursday evening in the last game in the league. After a promising start, a very close first half finished off with us trailing by 3 points. The second half was a similar affair with end to end action and despite a good performance by all players we ended up losing 4-10 to 4-05. Well done to all involved and thank you to the small panel of players who came out to play and of course the mentors; Barbara Jones, Laura Martin, Alison Jobe and Karen Reilly. We played Slashers on Sunday in the Gold Cup competition and despite missing a number of players through exams and injury we came away with a good win. The first half saw great team work and some very well taken scores with all forwards and midfielders getting on the score sheet. The second half saw Slashers make something of a comeback but it was too late to make a difference to the result. It was great to see all players getting a good run. We play St. Helen’s next Sunday in Division 2 league at home at 12.30. Sincere sympathies to the Kiernan family Aughamore Lower on their recent bereavement.

Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 18th May 2012

On Monday evening last the u14 panel played Killoe in their league in Pairc na Gael.  This was a very entertaining game with both sides showing up well.  Killoe held a single point advantage at half time on the score 2-03 to 2-02.  However Dromard redoubled their efforts and came back to edge it at the final whistle on the score line Dromard 4-07 Killoe 3-05.  This was a very good performance by the team that will be a confidence booster in their remaining games.  Team and scorers;  Amy McLoughlin, Laura Doherty, Róisín Kiernan, Allanna Reilly, Cáit Murphy (2-01), Rachel Reilly (2-01), Maria Murphy (0-02), Eleanor Gray (0-03), Claire Gorman.  Next game is a home game against Ballymahon/Forgney on Monday evening next. On Wednesday our under 12’s travelled to Monaduff to take on St. Helen’s.  Our team played well on the evening and came out on top at the finish.  Players on duty and scorers were, Kate Masterson, Amy McLoughlin, Karen McLoughlin, Clódagh Duffy, Aoífe Brady, Allana Mulligan (1-02), Andrea Farrell (1-02), Sarah Murphy (2-00), Shauna Hagan (1-01), Aoífe Grimes (1-04), Kathy Farrell, Alanna Reilly, Cíara Reilly, Gemma Reilly.  Next game is a home fixture against Clonguish on Wednesday next. The Longford Community Games girl’s under 12 football final was played out between Dromard and an amalgamation of Ardagh/Moydow/Glen at the Ardagh GAA grounds on Thursday last. A very exciting game unfolded between these two evenly matched sides, under difficult wet conditions and by half time the scoreboard read A/M/G 3-02 to Dromard 2-01. The second half was a real ding dong battle with Dromard enjoying a good spell early in the half only for Ardagh to come back into it to and hold out for a 3 point win on a score line of 6-03 to 4-07. Afterwards the Dromard captain Aoífe Brady and team-mates were presented with runner up county medals. This young team can be very proud of their performance and will have no doubt gained much experience from this final. We wish Ardagh/Moydow/Glen the best of luck in the next round in Leinster. The Dromard team and scorers: Kate Masterson, Aoífe Brady, Leah Duffy, Clódagh Duffy (1-00), Alanna Mulligan (1-03), Shauna Hagan (1-02),Sarah Murphy (1-02), Cathy Conefrey, Eleanor Rabbit, Gemma Reilly, Kathy Farrell. On Thursday last our under 16 Dromard/Colmcille amalgamation played St. Helens in Fr. McGee Park.  It was the visitors who came out on top in this encounter.  Well done to all players who gave of their best on the evening. Players involved on the day; Elaine Reilly (C), Laura Doherty (D), Rebecca Duffy (D), Nadine McKeon (C), Nicole Mulligan (C), Jane McNerney (C), Shauna O’Reilly (D), Laura Bleakley (D), Shannon Bransfield (C) , Finola Hughes (C), Ruth Jones (C), Laura Healy (C). On Sunday last our seniors travelled to Ballymahon to take on Ballymahon/Forgney in the Div. 2 league.  The girls played well and recorded a win.  Players on duty were Michelle Kilkenny, Laura Martin, Helen Conefrey, Níamh Cooke, Mairéad Reynolds, Imelda Reynolds, Bernice Martin, Lorna Reynolds, Sarah Reynolds, Caitríona Spollen, Chloe Connell, Michelle Masterson, Donna Masterson, Emma Bleakley, Doireann Mimnagh, Tara O’Hara, Linda Martin, Rebecca Maguire.

Ladies club notes for Friday 11th May 2012.

On Monday last our u14 team played their 2nd round game against Mullinalaghta in Pairc na Gael.  Despite the girls best efforts it was the visitors who held the upper hand, emerging victorious at the final whistle.  Team on this occasion.  Roisin Smith, Laura Doherty, Elaine Healy, Cait Murphy, Francis Cooke, Maria Murphy, Rachel Reilly, Andrea Farrell, Claire Gorman, Aine Smith, Allanna Reilly, Elanor Gray.  Next round of this competition is a home game with Killoe this Monday. On Wednesday our u12s played Ballymahon/Forgney in round 2 of their league in Pairc na Gael.  By half time visitors held a 1-3 to 0-2 lead.  The second half saw our opponents adding to their lead.  Our team continued to compete up until the end.  We trailed at the finish.  Well done to all players who gave a very good account of themselves.  Team on the evening.  Aoife Brady, Amy Mc Loughlin, Alanna Mulligan, Clodagh Duffy, Kate Masterson, Andrea Farrell, Jamie Lee Reilly, Ciara Reilly, Allanna Reilly, Shauna Hagan, Aine Smith.  Subs used.  Sarah Murphy, Faye Reilly, Gemma Reilly, Kathy Farrell and Eleanor Rabbit.  Next game is away to St. Helens on Wednesday next.  On Thursday our school girls travelled Pairc Ciaran to play Newtowncashel NS in the Cuman na Bunscoil competition.  This was a high scoring encounter with little separating the sides.  At half time the score was Newtowncashel 5-4 Dromard 4-3.  The second half saw the home side edge further ahead and at the final whistle the score was Newtowncashel 11-7 Dromard 6-5.  Players in action and scorers were;  Aoife Brady, Allanna Reilly, Claire Gorman, Cait Murphy, Jamie Lee Reilly, Elanor Gray, Sarah Murphy, Aoife Grimes. Allanna Mulligan, Ciara Reilly, Gemma Reilly, Cloda Duffy, Kathy Farrell, Kate Masterson, Eleanor Rabbit.  This team has qualified to play the same opposition in the final that is coming up in the near future. Our u16 Dromard/Colmcille team played Killoe on Thursday last and came away with a well-deserved victory. It was a very close first 20minutes with only a point separating the sides until Shannon Bransfield scored her second goal and put some distance between the teams. The second half saw some great team play and some great individual performances to see us finish on the winning side of a 2-11 to 2-4 scoreline. Team: Elaine Reilly (C), Laura Doherty (D), Rebecca Duffy (D), Nadine McKeown (C), Nicole Mulligan (C), Jane McNerney (C), Shauna O’Reilly (D), Laura Bleakley (D), Shannon Bransfield (C) , Finola Hughes (C), and Ruth Jones (C) sub: Laura Healy (C). Well done to all on a great team performance.  Next outing is against St. Helens on Thursday next. The senior team played Ballymahon/Forgney in round 2 of the Gold Cup on Friday evening last. The first 15 minutes saw both teams having good spells of play and while we were guilty of squandering some goal chances and points while playing with the wind in the first half we went into the break with a 1-7 to 1-1 lead. The second half saw very little scores from either side and the end result was Dromard 2-10 to 1-03. It was great to see everyone out and getting a game but best on the day were Emma Bleakley, Michelle Masterson, Donna Masterson, Imelda Reynolds, Sarah Reynolds and Rebecca Maguire. Ladies Club Notes for issue dated Friday 4th May 2012.

On Monday last our u14 panel travelled to Fr. McGee Park to play Colmcille in the opening round of the under 14 league.  The evening was wet and conditions were difficult for players from both sides.  The game was close throughout with no more than a score separating the side at any stage.  The half time score was Dromard 1-02 Colmcille 2-03.  Dromard's first half goal came from Áine Smith with the points coming from Andrea Farrell and Rachel Reilly.  Our team settled well into the game after half time scoring 3 goals however we trailed at the final whistle on the score line Dromard 4-02 Colmcille 4-05.  Team and scorers;  Amy McLoughlin (1-00), Cáit Murphy, Elaine Healy, Marie Murphy (1-00), Francis Cooke, Rachel Reilly (0-01), Laura Doherty, Eleanor Gray, Róisín Kiernan (1-00), Áine Smith (1-00), Andrea Farrell (0-01).  Subs; Róisín McGahern, Claire Gorman, Allana Reilly, Sarah Murphy, Kathy Farrell and Kate Masterson. On Wednesday the under 12 panel travelled to Killoe to play their opening game of this competition.  Wind and rain left conditions very difficult for both teams.  The poor weather didn't take away from what turned out to be a very entertaining game.  Playing against the breeze the girls trailed on the score line Dromard 2-03 Killoe 1-08.  The second half saw plenty of scoring and at full time the teams were deadlocked on the score Dromard 7-04 Killoe 5-10.  Players who played on the evening and scorers;  Aoífe Brady, Amy McLoughlin, Karen McLoughlin, Clódagh Duffy, Kate Masterson, Abigale Duffy, Jamie Lee Reilly (2-01), Andrea Farrell (2-01), Allana Reilly, Cíará Reilly, Gemma Reilly, Aoífe Grimes, Áine Smith (3-02), Eleanor Rabbitte, Kathy Farrell, Faye Reilly.  Next game is at home this Wednesday against Ballymahon/Forgney at 6.45pm. Dromard/Colmcille under 16 amalgamation played and were beaten by a very strong Slashers side in round two of the league on Thurs last. Slashers dominated the first half with some very good play and well taken scores but the Dromard/Colmcille team did not give up and kept battling away. The team came out fighting in the second half and put up a great show to notch up some great scores, unfortunately this was not enough to see off an impressive Slashers outfit. A great effort went in from all players with particular note to Elaine Healy in goals, Rebecca Duffy and Jane McNerney in the backs, Ruth Jones put in great work in midfield while Laura Bleakley and Shannon Bransfield fought hard in the forwards. Team; Elaine Healy (D), Nicole Mulligan (C), Rebecca Duffy (D) , Laura Healy (C), Jane McNerney (C), Nadine McKeown (C), Ruth Jones (C), Laura Bleakley (D), Shauna O'Reilly (D), Shannon Bransfield (C) and Laura Doherty (D). Substitute: Megan Jobe. The team plays Killoe on Thursday evening next. The senior team played round 4 of the league on Sunday against Carrickedmond. Carrickedmond started off with a very strong wind behind them and with some well taken scores they went into the break 2-07 to 2-01 ahead and if it weren't for the Trojan work of the backs and midfielders it could have been a greater difference. Dromard were to have the better of the scoring in the second half with the wind behind our backs, but a number of missed opportunities proved costly as we eventually went down 3-08 to 3-04. The conditions ensured that both teams had a lot to do when they were playing against the wind and we were guilty of not making the most of the strong wind when we had it in our favour. We were best served by Níamh Cooke, Emma Bleakley and Mairéad Reynolds in the backs, both midfielders put in lots of leg work and Ellen Murphy and Rebecca Maguire were most notable in the forwards. Team: Donna Masterson, Níamh Cooke, Bernice Martin, Emma Bleakley, Mairéad Reynolds, Aideen Mimnagh, Laura Martin, Helen Conefrey, Doireann Mimnagh, Tara O'Haire, Rebecca Maguire, Imelda Reynolds and Ellen Murphy. Subs; Michelle Masterson, Lorna Reynolds, Chloe Connell, Sarah Reynolds and Laura Bleakley. We wish Linda Martin, Laura Bleakley and Michelle McManus a speedy recovery from injury and best of luck to all the girls doing college exams at this time. Training on Tuesday evening at 8pm. We play Ballymahon/Forgney in Round 2 of the Gold Cup next weekend. We wish to thank the senior club for the proceeds of the lotto this week and thank everyone who made an effort to sell lottos on our behalf. Congratulations to Longford senior men who captured the Div 3 league title on Saturday last in Croke Park. Well done to Áine Smith who played in the exhibition game played during the half time interval of that game.  Best of luck to Longford senior ladies when they take on Limerick in the National league final next weekend.
